MBLC Professional Library 

The professional library supports the programs of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners by providing information and research services to agency staff, library administrators and staff, trustees, government officials, the business community and interested citizens.

The library collection specializes in the following areas:

  • library administration

  • personnel issues

  • financial management

  • supplemental funding and fundraising for public libraries

  • trusteeship

  • automation and library networks

  • library building construction

  • library planning and evaluation

  • library surveys

  • preservation

  • literacy-based library programs

  • services to special populations

Included in the library collection are 3,800 volumes, 120 periodical subscriptions, 50 professional videos, vertical file material, agency publications and archives. The library is a member of the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE) library network, is an affiliate member of NELINET and has access to electronic services such as Firstsearch and the Internet.

Reference, inter-library loan and direct lending services are readily available to the library community. Reference and loan requests may be made by telephone, mail, fax or e-mail. The Board's library holdings may be searched through the NOBLE network.
