Professional Library and Research Services

FACT SHEET

PURPOSE

The professional library supports the programs of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners by providing information and research services to agency staff, library administrators and staff, trustees, government officials, the business and professional community, and interested citizens.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The library collection specializes in the following areas:

  • library administration

  • personnel issues

  • financial management

  • Friends of Libraries issues

  • fundraising for public libraries

  • trusteeship

  • library technology

  • library building construction

  • library planning

  • preservation

  • security issues

  • services to special populations

Included in the library collection are 2,500 volumes, 65 periodical subscriptions, professional videos, vertical file material, agency publications and archives. The library is a member of the NOBLE library network and is an affiliate member of NELINET.

Reference, inter-library loan and direct lending services are readily available to the library community. Reference and loan requests may be made by telephone, mail, fax or e-mail. The library's holdings are available through the NOBLE catalog which can be accessed on the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioner's Web site (www.mass.gov/mblc).
