Public Relations Advisory Committee Recommendations

PUBLIC WEBSITE

The Public Relations Advisory Committee recommends that the MBLC launch and host a separate Website portal for use by the general public for online access to library content and access to local libraries that can be used in advertising and promotion, and allocate funds for this purpose.

SPONSORSHIPS/PARTNERS

  1. The Public Relations Advisory Committee recommends that the MBLC look to find a mechanism, similar to other state agencies/departments, to allow for other sources of funding in addition to its federal funding, whether corporate sponsorships or other entities, that could be used for library awareness or promoting programs.

  2. The Public Relations Advisory Committee recommends that the MBLC set guidelines for sponsorships and/or paid partners from outside the traditional non-profit library world to promote its various programs.

STATE FUNDING

The Public Relations Advisory Committee recommends that the MBLC investigate ways to obtain state funding for library awareness and promotion.

SPECIAL PROJECTS/PRIORITIES BUDGET FOR FY2008

The Public Relations Advisory Committee recommends that the MBLC make marketing and public relations a higher priority than it has been and fund it accordingly.

It is the understanding of the Public Relations Advisory Committee that it is possible that more than one-third of the funds earmarked for the Three-Year Marketing Plan will be needed to cover start-up costs in the first year. The PR Committee therefore recommends that the MBLC allow more of the money for the marketing plan to be used in FY2008 rather than be evenly distributed over the three years of the marketing campaign.

This Web site, and other programs of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, is funded in part with funds from the
Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency that fosters innovation, leadership and a lifetime of learning.
