Library Statistics

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners collects (on the Annual Report Information Survey, ARIS) and analyzes financial, demographic and personnel data and information on public libraries' staffing and services. The data are compiled and published each year in a series of reports. Customized statistical reports are also available for libraries and for state and municipal officials.

The Board also collects and publishes data from academic, school and special libraries.

In addition, the agency staff participate in the Federal State Cooperative System for Public Library Data, the State Library Agency Survey and the Academic Library Survey through the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

This Web site, and other programs of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, is funded in part with funds from the
Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency that fosters innovation, leadership and a lifetime of learning.
