The Public Libraries Fund

The Public Libraries Fund, established in the FY2007 State Budget, is administered by the Board of Library Commissioners. The FY2008 appropriation is $250,000. A list of the current matching awards is available after the Board meeting in March.

The purpose of this program is to provide a matching incentive for funds raised by local trustees and library foundations from non-municipal sources for the enhancement of library services beyond those provided through municipal funds.

To be Eligible for the FY2008 Public Libraries Fund:

  1. The municipality and its public library must be certified for FY2008 State Aid to Public Libraries.

  2. A minimum of $2,000 up to a maximum of $100,000, must have been raised from or by private individuals or organizations for the benefit of the public library.

  3. Funds raised must be available to be expended for the enhancement of library services.

  4. The municipality and its public library must provide documentation of funds raised during the reporting period of January 1, 2007 through June 30, 2007.

  5. The Public Libraries Fund Application Form (MS Word) and required documentation (see sample) (MS Word) must by completed and submitted to the Board of Library Commissioners by October 19, 2007.

Please note that funds raised for a Public Libraries Fund match cannot be counted twice - that is, funds raised and matched in the FY2007 Public Libraries Fund program cannot be matched in the FY2008 Public Libraries Fund program.
