Download Library Addresses
The Massachusetts Library Directory provides contact information for 1700 libraries of all types in Massachusetts. All libraries listed are members of one of the six Massachusetts regional library systems.
This downloadable version of the directory provides basic mail contact information for member libraries in a format that is easy to import into spreadsheet, word processor and database applications. The six regional library system headquarters office addresses are included as well. Data is updated nightly.
Download the "mass_libraries.csv" file. Your browser should prompt you to save the file.

Click on the Save button, and put in the folder of your choice.

The file is in a format called "CSV" or "Comma-Separated-Values" Your spreadsheet (e.g., MS Excel, Quattro Pro) or your database (e.g., MS Access) should be able to open the file easily.
Opening in Microsoft Excel (Windows)
On most computes, MS Excel recognizes csv files automatically. To open, use your Windows Explorer to find the file. Then doubleclick the file. MS Excel should open up with the data showing. The top row will have the field labels. You will probably need to resize the column widths to see all the data clearly.
If the csv file extension is not yet associated with Excel, you can simply open Excel, then follow these steps:
-
Click on File | Open
-
Change the Files of type: dropdown to Text Files (*.prn;*.txt;*.csv)

Importing into Microsoft Access (Windows)
-
Start MS Access.
-
Create a new database, or select an existing database where you want to import the library data.
-
Right-click in Tables and select "Import"

-
In MS Access' "Save As" dialog box, change the Files of Type dropdown from the default value of "mdb" to Text Files (*.txt;*.csv;*.tab;*.asc)

-
A text file import should open up. Accept the default value of "Delimited" and click Next

-
On the 2nd screen, select "First Row Contains Field Names" and leave the remaining default values alone (Comma as field delimiter and doublequote mark as text qualifier)

-
Store your data in a new table. (Or you may choose to overwrite older data that you had imported previously.)

-
Leave all the Field Options alone, and click Finish

-
You should now have an MS Access database table from which you can run queries and mailing labels.
