Literacy/ESOL Programs
Library-based literacy services provide basic skills instruction to adults with low literacy skills. These programs support the library's mission as a center for life-long learning. Individual programs vary from one library to the next. Many programs utilize trained volunteers who provide basic literacy training through one-on-one tutoring, while others offer small group instruction.
A number of libraries provide ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) services for persons with limited English proficiency. The library may also offer special services such as family literacy which targets whole families for learning, citizenship preparation or training for the GED or the High School equivalency exam.
