SWIFT APPOINTS KNOWLES TO THE BOARD OF LIBRARY COMMISSIONERS

Governor Jane Swift today announced the appointment of Em Claire Knowles to the Board of Library Commissioners. The Board of Library Commissioners develops and promotes library services throughout the Commonwealth and coordinates statewide and regional programs for the improvement of library services.

Knowles currently serves as the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College. Previously, she served as the coordinator of bibliographic instruction for the Shields Library at the University of California.

Knowles received a B.A. from the University of California at Davis in 1973, an M.L.S. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1974, an M.P.A. from California State University in 1986, and a D.A. from Simmons College in 1988. Knowles currently resides in Medford, Massachusetts.
